Finding Ultra – Finding Ultra is Rich Roll’s amazing account of achieving one of the most mind blowing midlife physical transformations ever. At the age of forty Rich went on to compete for the title of the worlds best within two years.
Finding Ultra lays out Rich’s incredible journey to an elite Ultraman competition with the world’s fittest humans racing against each other in a 320-mile ordeal of swimming, biking, and running. And following that test, Rich conquered an unimagined: Epic5—five Ironman-distance triathlons, each on a different Hawaiian island, all completed in less than a week.
For me, Finding Ultra was an inspiring, well written, story of willpower and vision can accomplish. Today I regularly follow Rich Roll’s podcast. https://www.richroll.com/podcast/neal-barnard/
How Not To Die – From the physician behind the wildly popular website NutritionFacts.org, How Not to Die reveals the groundbreaking scientific evidence behind the only diet that can prevent and reverse many of the causes of disease-related death.
The vast majority of premature deaths can be prevented through simple changes in diet and lifestyle. In How Not to Die, Dr. Michael Greger, the internationally-renowned nutrition expert, physician, and founder of NutritionFacts.org, examines the fifteen top causes of premature death in America — heart disease, various cancers, diabetes, Parkinson’s, high blood pressure, and more — and explains how nutritional and lifestyle interventions can sometimes trump prescription pills and other pharmaceutical and surgical approaches, freeing us to live healthier lives.
The simple truth is that most doctors are good at treating acute illnesses but bad at preventing chronic disease. The fifteen leading causes of death claim the lives of 1.6 million Americans annually. This doesn’t have to be the case. By following Dr. Greger’s advice, all of it backed up by strong scientific evidence, you will learn which foods to eat and which lifestyle changes to make to live longer.
Natural Born Heroes – What a great follow up after reading Born to Run. Christopher McDougall weaves together a true story of a kidnapping taking place In April 1944, a Nazi commander on the island of Crete was somehow mysteriously and miraculously kidnapped right under the nose of the Germans. No shots were fired, there was no bloodshed and no sign of a struggle. General Heinrich Kreipe simply vanished. The incident gets a thorough airing out in Christopher McDougall’s Natural Born Heroes: How a Daring Band of Misfits Mastered the Lost Secrets of Strength and Endurance.
Born To Run – Great characters, latest science and such an inspiration. I literally would put this book down and head out for a run. Christopher McDougall sets off to find a tribe of the world’s greatest distance runners and learn their secrets. It will surprise you how much of what we thought we knew about running is wrong.
Cool Impossible – After reading Born to Run, The Cool Impossible is a must read. Eric Horton is a great running coach that observes our innate anatomy and brings awareness to our potential for achievement beyond what you thought possible. Natural running is more than barefoot running. It’s about the joy of running that we were all born with and can reawaken. It’s an all around great resource for those who are looking to enhance performance, combat injuries, and transform technique.
Let My People Go Surfing – In his long-awaited memoir, Yvon Chouinard-legendary climber, businessman, environmentalist, and founder of Patagonia, Inc. – you will learn of his persistence and passion to become the founder of one most environmentally respected companies on the planet.
